Activism and why act?
Activism : a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue Responsibility : something that you should do because it is morally right, legally required, etc. Above is posted both the definition of “activism” and the reason why one would engage in it, “responsibility.” To oneself, one’s community, one’s country. You do it for those with less, with disadvantage or being taken advantage of. You do it because it could be you or you could be next. You do it because if any one of us suffers at the hands of tyranny, negligence, irresponsibility, contempt, hatred, or greed we are all affected. When we have the ability, means, and capability to do something and we don’t we are complicit. You do it to save, recover, and preserve dignity, what is just, righteous, and for humane ideals, decency, opportunity, and fairness. You do it for physical safety, food safety, child safety, senior safety, consumer safety, product safety, and environmental safety. You do for those before who never had or were given a chance and who suffered needlessly, and you do it so it won’t happen to anyone else. You do it because it’s our collective responsibility. That’s what human beings are supposed to do.
The value of democracy
The value of democracy is the freedom, right, and ability to pursue happiness, justice, equality, opportunity, dreams, and change. To not explore and participate in these endeavors when called upon or as a contribution to a better life and a better world is a missed opportunity and a regrettable one, not only for oneself, but for those who would also benefit from such efforts.
